Flowers Galore in Reno’s Public Rose Garden

I just returned from a visit to Reno, Nevada.

While there I had to walk through the beautiful Rose Garden at Idlewild Park, located in a residential area not far from downtown.

The one acre Rose Garden has 200 varieties of roses and over 1,750 total roses, including this stunning yellow rose [above].

The rose season begins in early June and lasts until September. The peak seasons, when the entire rose garden is in bloom, are during late June/early July and late August.

The Rose Garden was established in 1958 under the leadership of Fred Gallaway and is now dedicated in his honor. Fred Gallaway was the City of Reno horticulturist for more than 25 years, retiring in 1983.
